The Bond Trust

Bringing On New Days

Supporting safer reintegration and stronger communities across Aotearoa.

Bond Trust works to strengthen reintegration, community safety, and cross sector collaboration across Aotearoa. Our mahi focuses on supporting people returning from prison, building capability within the sector, and improving national practice through partnership and advocacy.

BOND: Bringing On New Days

Our name reflects our belief that every person carries the potential for renewal.

The koru sits at the heart of our identity, symbolising new beginnings, growth, and the steady unfolding of potential when people are supported with dignity, accountability, and connection.

Our Mission

Strengthening the ecosystem that makes reintegration work

Bond Trust was formed in 2014 by a small group with more than 100 years of combined experience walking alongside people in prison as they prepared for release.

Our roots lie in the internationally recognised Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) model, which continues to shape our values and approach.

Today, through our partnership with the Fellowship Support Network, most direct person-centred support is coordinated by FSN. This allows Bond to focus on strengthening the wider ecosystem of collaboration, evidence-based practice, and public understanding that makes reintegration safer and more effective for everyone.

At its core, our mission is simple: to help bring on new days for individuals, families, and communities.
Our Values

Protection, partnership, participation

Three commitments shape every piece of work we take on, and the way we work with others across the sector.

Protection

We work to enhance community safety by promoting reintegration approaches that are evidence-based, relational, and grounded in dignity. Protection is not just the absence of harm. It is the presence of stability, connection, and opportunity.

Partnership

We collaborate across the sector with statutory agencies, NGOs, researchers, people with lived experience, and community groups to strengthen reintegration outcomes. Like the interwoven fronds of the koru, each partner brings unique strengths that contribute to a safer, more resilient whole.

Participation

We believe communities thrive when people are supported to participate fully. We amplify lived experience, encourage community involvement, and foster informed public conversations that build understanding, trust, and wellbeing.

Governance

A small, experienced board

Bond Trust is governed by a small, experienced board committed to integrity, transparency, and service to community. Our trustees bring backgrounds in:

  • Reintegration and rehabilitation
  • Community safety
  • Justice system practice
  • Governance and cross-sector collaboration
  • Including lived experience and peer support advisors
  • Faith-based and community leadership

Our governance reflects the values of protection, partnership, and participation, and is grounded in the belief that communities flourish when people are supported to do the same.

Our Commitment

Safer communities are built through connections and accountability

We believe that safer communities are built not through fear or exclusion, but through connections, accountability, and the steady unfolding of human potential.

Bond Trust will continue to champion approaches that honour the dignity of all people, strengthen community wellbeing, and help bring on new days for individuals, whānau, and communities across Aotearoa.
